USB (English: Universal Serial Bus) is a serial bus standard for connecting devices, usually to computers but is also used in other devices like game consoles, cell phones and PDAs.

USB system has an asymmetric design, consisting of a host controller and multiple devices connected in the form of a tree by using a special hub devices.

USB design is intended to eliminate the need for additional expansion card into ISA or PCI bus computer, andimprove the ability of plug-and-play (plug-and-play) by allowing the equipment exchanged or added to the systemwithout needing to reboot the computer. When the USB is installed, he immediately recognized the computersystem and processing device drivers needed to run them.

USB can connect additional devices such as computer mice, keyboards, scanners, digital cameras, printers, harddisk, and networking components. USB has now become the standard for multimedia devices such as scannersand digital cameras.

The latest version (up to January 2005) USB is version 2.0. The most striking difference between new and oldversions is the transfer speed is considerably increased. USB data transfer speed is divided into three, among others:

Super speed data with a clock frequency of 4,800.00 Mb / s
High speed data with a clock frequency of 480.00Mb / s and a data signaling tolerance to ± 500ppm.
Full speed data with clock frequency 12.000Mb / s and a data signaling tolerance to ± 0.25% or 2.500 ppm.
Low speed data with a clock frequency of 1.50Mb / s and a data signaling tolerance at ± 1.5% or 15.000 ppm.
